It takes 15-20 professionals to take a raw manuscript and produce a book fit for the market. Below are basic explanations of what each professional role entails; some roles are paid, other roles are rewarded by either exchanging time for time or time for a free copy of the completed book.

Critique Partners

A critique partner can be another author who may exchange a work-in-progress with you in order to provide constructive feedback to one-another on edits and structure at the beginning of the publishing journey.

Developmental Editor

A developmental editor is a professional who analyzes your book on a macro level looking at structure, organisation and content; they look at transitions and coherence.

Line Editor

A line editor focuses on each word, sentence and paragraph; they refine vocabulary, smoothe out transitions and ensure that the voice of the book is engaging.

Copy Editor

A copy editor ensures the manuscript is clean and adheres to a specific style; they correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and ensure that any facts included in the manuscript are correct.

Proofreader

The proofreader is the final stop prior to publishing, they check for typesetting errors, misplaced punctuation or incorrect spelling; they are the final clean and polish of your book.

Beta Reader

A beta reader acts as a member of your audience prior to publishing; they consider your target audience, clarity and flow and whether the book is engaging. 

Cover Designer

The cover designer not only makes the book look appealing but also communicates the books value and target audience; they help to bring credibility and tone.

Head of Printing

The head of printing is here to ensure that the manuscript and book cover is print ready; this requires ensuring that the books ISBN is correct, that the barcode is on the back cover, along with any reviews that are to be included prior to its printing.

Digital Developer

A digital developer creates a digital version of each book, ensuring that it is compatable with all e-readers; they ensure the book reaches its target audience.

Head of Marketing

The head of marketing is involved in strategic planning, bringing brand awareness and driving sales; they use data analytics to analyze the market and the direction of each book so that the author’s voice is heard in a crowded market.

Media Producer

A social media producer creates buzz and excitement on social media platforms, they inform the public of books that are coming out and on new releases. They foster conversations and interest in our books to help to drive sales through direct links and special offers.

Accountant

 The accountant is everyone’s best friend, they ensure that your royalties are paid and paid on time. They look after the financial side of Tenshi Publishing.

 

Publicist

A publicist secures media coverage such as reviews, podcast interviews, featured articles; they help to build buzz and brand positioning presenting authors as knowledgeable.

Legalities & Contracts

The legalities of writing and publishing a book need to be considered for both parties, the publisher and the author. Contracts need to be clear, transparent, written in easy to understand English and state what royalties the author is going to receive, they need to include any clauses and information on breaking a contract; contracts require professional input from recognized industry professionals.

CEO & President

The CEO oversees the financial and operational direction of the company, they are responsible for creating a profitable catalogue of titles and adapting to industry shifts; they are also responsible for vision and growth, team leadership, brand building and rights and licensing.
